Welcome to Legally Blonde!

We are excited to get started!

This production is the full Broadway production! Lots of fun and work ahead of you!

Please note- there are some adult content and sensitive topic references in this production. Make sure to reference to soundtrack, video or script to make sure you and your performer are comfortable with the content.

We will not have hard copy scripts available. All student accounts have been emailed an invitation to join the Legally Blonde Production Pro account. Once you are in the Production Pro account, you can find a digital copy of the script, vocal book and piano score. I suggest bringing your tablet or phone to rehearsals to access this content when you are there. (Label your devices!)

If you prefer to print out a hard copy of the script and vocal book, you can find that on scribd. You may have to pay a fee depending on your account status on scribd. There are also free versions of the script only (no vocal book), floating around on the internet.

Welcome to Legally Blonde

Rehearsals require positive attendance. Not all students will be needed at all rehearsals, and we will do our best to let folks know when they can skip and/or rehearse at home. If they end up at a rehearsals and do not have a lot to do with the directing team, they should team up with each other to work on lyrics, choreo, lines, etc.

Dress Code and positive behavior requirements will be enforced.

Bring Jazz shoes and Water Bottles for rehearsals.

Hi Legally Blonde Families!

We hope everyone had a great Passover, Easter and has a Spring Break.  We look forward to seeing you all soon for some fabulous performances.  Please read all of the details below, parents and performers both (please share with each other), to have a smooth and successful tech and performance run!

Performance Notes for Performers

Practice

Actors need to practice all things!

---Whipped Into Shape actors should be jumping rope every day. If you are not practicing and cannot successfully/consistently complete the number during tech, you may be removed from the number.

---Actors should know all of their lines, vocals, words, and choreography. Those not practicing and unable to successfully/consistently participate in the numbers/scenes may be removed from those scenes. Practice!!!

----Take it Like a Mand Back up vocals can use this link for reference: https://youtu.be/Iu5u5eBXKxY

---Actors, remember what Laura Belle Bundy said about knowing your back story and using that to inform your characters.  For example, if you are a “Harvard Student”, what is your story?  How did you get to Harvard? What are your character’s goals, traits, etc.  What is your character’s name?  How do they feel/interact with other characters.  How do they stand, move, walk and talk. This will bring life to your acting choices and the shows.  https://harryallenfawcett.medium.com/an-actors-guide-to-character-development-3edb69fd5376  Some of you may be asked to share your back stories with the rest of the cast.

----If you have any lines at all, or vocal solos, choreograph how you will stand, gesture, move your arms (not just your hands).  No standing with your arms pinned to your sides.  Use your backstory to influence your movements. Example, the DA/Attorneys, would be strong and bold, confident, and commanding gestures. They want to look large and in charge.   Elle is quirky and funny and spunky, she would move with energy, excited arm gestures, that bring attention to herself and use the space around her.   No one should deliver lines or sing their songs standing like a stick figure with arms/elbows glued to their sides unless their character is shy/sad/introverted.   Go through your lines and songs and figure out how and when you will use your arms and practice that over and over to create muscle memory.

----- Mae created a Scene By Scene chart you can use to make notes on your personal show, you can find that sheet to print out here : https://docs.google.com/document/d/1AaDYZ6xCzte-Z_BRXPDdYDcxVlz_A5NEtJ08B4VcroI/edit?usp=sharing

Visit the Sign-Up Genius- It’s Updated

The Sign-Up Genius has been updated to reflect some volunteer shift times for set/tech helpers.  I tried to make the sign up shorter by just putting the days and asking folks to text Jan and Rob the times they could come, so Jan and Rob could be ready for them, but that didn’t work out.  So, I added shifts 😊.  Please sign up for any shifts you are available for.  We have a lot to get done between now and Sunday when the tech begins with the actors.  We need lots of helpers, but we need them in organized shifts so we can properly plan for them. -Thanks!  https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C054DACA829A5FBC43-56279760-legally#/

Parent Volunteer Meeting

If you are new to Showtime performances, or new to the volunteer role you have signed up for, please sign up for and attend one of the parent meetings on the sign-up genius.

Drop off Props from the Prop Sign Up Genius ASAP

We need to organize these and ensure we have everything this week, so the actors have everything they need for Sunday. Please drop them off at the theatre no later than Wednesday.

 Costume Fittings

We will have a costume fitting session Saturday, April 26th, with time slots at 6, 6:30 and 7. Please choose a time slot and attend at that time. Most fittings should take 30 minutes to an hour. Those out of town Saturday, will have fittings on Sunday during rehearsal.

**** The School performance for Legally Blonde Jr is cancelled***

The Schools that were planning to attend have just been informed by their administration they are not allowed to travel that week. So, please note, in lieu of that school performance, we will have a pickup dress rehearsal, Tuesday May 6th, 5:30- 8:30pm.

Attend all rehearsals and performances

Tech week is a blackout period, which means attendance is required. The dates have been advertised for that since the fall.  Students who do not attend tech rehearsals/performances may be removed from the show, as it poses not only a threat to production value, but a safety hazard for other performers.  With 2 casts, there will be days when they are practicing on stage and days where the opposite cast is onstage and their cast is cleaning next door at the theatre.  See attached Calendars for reference.

Be Prepared for tech week with pre-planning

Tech week is hard. There are late nights, it’s tiring, and sometimes stressful.  Make smart choices. Prep easy carry / bagged meals, lots of water and clean snacks, don’t procrastinate on homework, get as much sleep as possible. Be prepared for students to need to take naps to and from rehearsals, etc.  In professional theatre, tech week is all “10 out of 12’s”- meaning the actors are there every day for 12 hours with 2 hours worth of breaks. Obviously, we cannot do that with performers in school, but we need to cram as much of the same type of rehearsal into a shorter period of time per day 😊. So, patience and pre-planning are necessary.
